Swag Black Cigar “Cigar of the Month January 2015” by Boutique Blend Cigars

Swag Black Cigar

Brand History:

Boutique Blends Cigars, formerly the Habana Cuba Cigar Company, is an American manufacturer of premium hand-rolled cigars based in Miami, Florida. The company was established in 1996 during the American cigar boom as the non-Cuban manufacturer of the historic Cuban “Oliveros” brand. The company was sold in 2002 to a new ownership group consisting of the Cuban-born Rafael Nodal, his wife Alina Cordoves Nodal and Hank Bischoff.

In 2012 the company’s repositioning as a maker of small batch, premium cigars was further solidified with the adoption of a new name: “Boutique Blends Cigars.”  Along with the announcement of the new company name at the Pro Cigar Trade Show in Santiago, Dominican Republic, their new direction of making a premium, small batch line of products was also made clear.  In 2013, Boutique Brands’ Aging Room Quattro F55 Concerto cigar was named the No. 2 cigar of the year by Cigar Aficionado magazine.

Appearance:

This Honduran wrapper has a roasted almond color with a truly rustic look.  Its seamlessness and silky smoothness had a distinctly bold pre-light smell.  The cigar had a nice firm feel and sweet hay-like smell.  Once cut, you will find a big pre-light smell of botanicals and earthiness.

Journey Profile:

Once lit, there were some really great flavors instantly.  During the 1st quarter, there was a creamy texture and, right from the start, the strong aroma from the Black Swag’s smoke.  Its earthy and floral notes filled the surrounding area.  In the 2nd quarter, the cigar’s bold spiciness and cedar came into play.  The smoke had a sweet and rich earthy aroma along with a full peppery taste and more spice.  For those cigar lovers wanting complex and full-bodied cigars, the Swag Black will place a big smile on your face.  Starting onto the 3rd quarter, we got the same great flavors and aroma.  4th quarter enjoy the last quarter, the Swag Black bloomed into an awesome full-body with hints of chocolate on the finish.

 Final Thoughts:

The Swag Black’s sweet and peppery tones were consistent but intensified throughout the smoke.  It brings full flavor with a smooth draw and a long and tasty finish.  It’s really too bad that this cigar is a limited run.  Overall, it is a very well made cigar that was effortless to enjoy and left a lasting impression.  Swag Black is flourishing with flavors of an alluring combination and an unmistakable quality.
