Asylum Premium Cigar “Take No Prisoners”
Kevin Baxter and Tom Lazuka created the Asylum cigar series in collaboration with Christian Eiroa of Tabacaleras Unidas. With what many would say is a, “take no prisoners” approach, Asylum Cigars is breaking out with a diversity of taste profiles and formats at very approachable prices, achieving their goal of appealing to a broad cigar audience at every level.
Lazuka noted that the partnership with Tabacaleras Unidas provides a platform that gives him the ability to create full-body, high-palate-impact to truly flavourful medium bodied cigars. All of them are rolled with the finest available Nicaragua tobacco reserves and will leave you wanting more.
Appearance:
This cigar has a hearty brown wrapper that was silky to the touch with an amazing earthy and coffee aroma. A clean and subtle pre-light smell was also noticeable right away. Its smooth and seamless appearance also came with a rich looking oily sheen on the wrapper.
Journey Profile:
The Asylum cigar has a very smooth draw with dense clouds of smoke. A very rich aroma developed once lit. Spices quickly developed through to the palate; the taste was full flavored, with luring rich notes. There is an underlying sweetness with well-balanced flavors. Just when I started wondering if this cigar could get any better, it did. The profile got more bold and leathery as sweet notes grew. The smoke gave off a nice, creamy texture that came through the mouth with lots of spices in the nose.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, the Asylum has excellent construction with a near perfect burn that held on to some thick smoke. There are many spicy earth characteristics with rich tobacco notes. This cigar offers a lot of flavor without overpowering the palate; it is complex and builds to a nice intensity of flavor as you move through the body for a long lasting finish.
