“Gorgeous reddish wrapper” Caldwell Murcias Especial Cigar Review.
Brand History:
“Rare Tobaccos, Attention to Quality, Social Consciousness, Flavor First.” Caldwell Cigars is a company built by friends for friends. Robert Caldwell, who is also known for his connection with Wynwood Cigars, owns it. He has now partnered with William and Henderson Ventura at Tobacalera Venture to make blends for his new cigar company, laboring to bring forth the finest quality product with great attention paid to every detail. They are setting out to deliver their customers special cigars that use only the finest, most exotic, all Grade-A tobaccos that exist. Caldwell Cigars are in this for their love of the leaf and their drive to share the fruits of their labor.
Appearance:
There is a gorgeous dark reddish brown wrapper with some noticeable tooth. It was oily and silky smooth to the touch with no soft spots. The pre-light aroma was sweet with some wood notes.
Journey Profile:
1st quarter: There was some resistance on the draw once lit. However, within five minutes, the draw became effortless and allowed big clouds of dense, full flavored smoke through to the palate. The cigar began to produce plenty of smoke at the foot and even more to the palate. There were spices present through the nose and a light texture on the palate. 2nd quarter: A lot of interesting full flavored spices developed along with an underlying medium character and sweetness. The aroma of sweet earth and a hint of chocolate and nuttiness started to develop. Rich tobacco notes with spices through the nose lingered onto the finish. 3rd quarter: Big white clouds of smoke produced a very pleasant, flavorful aroma. Rich earthy tones then appeared along with some cedar and cocoa notes on the palate and in the flavor. A dense and creamy texture developed as noticeably full characters grew. 4th quarter: Some peppery spices continued to develop with deep and rich earthy tobacco notes. The body then moved into a medium to full strength. The aroma and flavor continued to develop and intensify, delivering a very rich and full flavor.
Final Thoughts:
The Caldwell Murcias Especial is a well-made and fairly complex cigar that develops all the way down to the nub. It has a very flavorful, long and spicy finish. While full bodied, it is effortless to enjoy and could easily be smoked beyond the nub. It offers hints of creaminess, cedar, and nuts – all played an important role and left a lasting impression.
