Davidoff 50th Aniversario Special “R” Cigar Review.

Brand History:

It was in 1968 when Davidoff first launched its Davidoff-branded White Label cigars. With 2018 marking the 50th anniversary, Davidoff is planning a series of activities to commemorate the milestone. Activities include a series of events, specialty commissioned cigars and accessories, and special bands that will adorn several of the White Label releases.

“This is a very special year for us. We look back with pride on 50 years of creating exceptional, original cigars and accessories, but more importantly, we look forward with a great sense of exhilaration to new, unknown horizons that will bring exciting, undiscovered experiences for those who love cigars,” said Charles Awad, Senior Vice President – Chief Marketing Officer at Oettinger Davidoff AG in a press release.

Several Davidoff White Label lines, including the Davidoff Aniversario and Davidoff Signature will receive commemorate 50th-anniversary white label lines.

When the Davidoff brand launched in 1968, production was handled in Cuba. In 1989, Zino Davidoff was unhappy with the quality of the product he was getting from Cuba and made the decision to move production out of that country. By 1991, Davidoff had established its base of operations in the Dominican Republic.

 Appearance:

Covered in a silky smooth evenly gold brown wrapper.  Seamless with a pre-light smell of light hay-like notes and a slightly sweetness of a graham cracker like notes.

Journey Profile:

1st Third

Lit and the cigar draw was incredibly smooth and effortless.  Smoke was light bodied, rich in delicate flavors.  A nice rich aroma and flavors that matched the pre-light Taste.  An inch into the cigar and remarkably even burn along with some smooth earthiness being introduced.

2nd Third:

There was just a slight resistance on the draw, which made this cigar extremely smooth and effortless to enjoy.  The draw gave off wonderful earthy aroma with s-iciness in the taste and nose.   A nice amount of pepper on the retrohale with spice on my palate.

Final Third:

Creaminess lingering witha very rich luring aromas.  While maintaining a spiciness in the taste and nice there was a fairly amount of sweet undertone in the flavor and on the palate and through the nose.

Final Conclusion:

The Flavor was rich with a lot of earthy, peppery spices and hints of roasted nuts.  Big character as it was smoked full flavored, medium bodied finish that left a lasting impression.  This Aniversario definitely offered a lot of delicate flavored yet had some complexity and finesse.  Outstanding construction and burn with great flavors.  Nice balance with an even burn with a long and dense dark gray ash.  A mild cigar that offers a lot of flavor and balance.
