Bethpage Black Course Farmingdale, NY
The Black Course is a difficult and challenging course that should be played only by low-handicap golfers. The course is for walkers only and its slope rating is one of the highest in the northeast. Anyone who has played will tell you it is a true test of golf skill and physical endurance. This was one of the last courses designed by master golf course architect A.W. Tillinghast, and is said by many to be his finest work. The Black Course served as the site of the 102nd U.S. Open Championship in 2002, and again at the 109th U.S. Open in 2009. The Barclays is scheduled to be played here in 2012, adding another major event to the list played at Bethpage. The narrow fairways, high roughs, well placed bunkers and small greens help to make this an extremely difficult course. It regularly ranks among the best courses in the country. Golfweek rated it the #1 best municipal course for 09-10, and again in 10-11, and it made their list of the top 100 classic American golf courses. It also made the Golf Digest’s top 100 American public and private course list in 2005, and was number 7 on their Top 100 American Public Courses. Golf Magazine included it on their Top 100 Courses in the World, and ranked it 10th in the Top Courses Since 1959. Every serious golfer should test their skills, and what better place to do it than the Black?
Information about Golf Registration and Reservations at Bethpage State Park
I. How to Register into the Automated Telephone
Reservation System
To make golf reservations at Bethpage State Park you must be registered in the automated telephone reservation system. There are two ways to register:
1. In Person
Individuals can register in person at the Bethpage clubhouse. Please bring a valid driver’s license or DMV issued identification.
2. By Fax
New York State Residents: Fax a copy of a New York State DMV identification card (driver’s license or non-driver identification card) to 516-753-0413. The following information must be included on the copy of the identification: name, date of birth, the driver’s license or non-driver identification’s number and expiration date, as well as a telephone number where we can reach you. The driver or non-driver license’s identification number will be the reservation access number. Registration can be confirmed by calling the reservation system and entering the number.
Non-New York State Residents: Fax a copy of a state driver’s license or DMV identification card to 516-753-0413. The following information must be included on the copy of your identification: name, date of birth, your driver or non-driver license’s identification number and expiration date, and a telephone number and email address where we can reach you. The system will generate the registrant’s registration number. Registrants will be contacted with their number. Registration can be confirmed by calling the reservation system and entering the issued number.
IMPORTANT: Please print clearly. Illegible requests cannot be processed.
II. How to Make a Reservation
Reservation telephone number: 516-249-0707
New York State Residents: Once registered to use the automated reservation telephone system, a tee time reservation can be made seven days in advance, beginning at 7pm EST for the Black Course and 7:30pm EST for all other courses. Reservations can be made at anytime during the seven day period, until 11:50pm EST the day before.
Non-New York State Residents: Once registered to use the automated reservation telephone system, a tee time reservation can be made two days in advance, beginning at 7pm EST for the Black Course and 7:30pm EST for all other courses. Reservations can be made at anytime during the two day period, until 11:50pm EST the day before.
Please note: There is a $5.00 per player reservation fee. Tickets must be purchased one hour prior to the reserved tee time. Late arrivals risk loss of reservation, and the assessment of a no-show fee. Allow plenty of travel time.
III. Cancellation or Modification Policy
All reservation cancelations, modifications or changes must be made prior to 11:59 pm two days prior to the play date. Any changes made to the reservation one day prior to the play date (even if that is the day you made the reservation) will be charged a $5.00 fee per change.
No-Show Fee
A $15.00 per player no-show fee will be charged for individuals failing to claim a reservation on the day of play without cancelling it.
IV. Black Course Restrictions
Reservations on the Black course are limited to one reservation per person per month.
For reference, Twilight Hours begin at 4PM. You will likely not finish a round before sundown, which is why a discount is offered.
