Founded in 2003 by former Marine Matt Booth, Room101 has become a luxury lifestyle brand for those who demand quality with an edge. His clientele is very diverse and covers everyone from corporate boardrooms to the rock and roll stage. Over the past 11 years, Room101 and Matt Booth have been featured in top lifestyle, fashion, and specialty magazines worldwide along with multiple appearances on major television networks. World domination is their mission!
Initially, a mutual business associate had introduced Matt to Dylan Austin and some of the Camacho family at a Las Vegas after party. Immediately, the synergy between the two camps was acknowledged – and talk quickly turned to a smoker’s accessory series that Matt had already been working on. He wanted to translate the Room101 flavor to lighters and cutters and he had some ideas on deck for a humidor series, which was unlike anything he had seen in the market. After this initial meeting, it was clear that there was another opportunity – why not create a cigar to accompany these fine accessories; or create accessories to accompany a fine cigar? Before he knew it, Matt was touring the Camacho Family facilities in Danli, Honduras and following the lead of Christian Eiroa. It was there that the process of the cigar craft was broken down from the very beginnings to the final product of a hand crafted cigar. Witnessing the process first-hand not only blew his mind, but it changed the way he would view cigars forever and solidified the direction in which Matt would go within this industry.
The Room 101 Big Payback has a hearty-looking brown wrapper with a rich pre-light smell. It was incredibly smooth to the touch, without any firmness.
1st quarter: There was a smooth draw which delivered thick clouds of smoke – they were full of richness and aroma that encompassed the air. It produced a flaky white ash, and earthy textures along with some spice in the nose were evident right from the start. 2nd quarter: The cigar held onto a one and a half inch ash and continued producing plenty of light white smoke. There was a very subtle sweetness and a lot of smoky, earth tones. A slow burn held on to a light-colored and flaky ash. 3rd quarter: The burn remained slow and almost completely even, and there was a touch of creamy texture. Its consistent flavors stayed on course with no resistance on the draw. 4th quarter: While its intensity developed, the cigar remained fairly consistent to the end, offering a mild body to its finish.
The Room 101 Big Payback 7×70 is a well balanced cigar, offering rich tobacco character that is balanced with hints of sweetness and earthiness. It is an extremely well made cigar, so make sure you have plenty of time to smoke and enjoy it.
