“Spice & cream” AVO Syncro Nicaragua Short Robusto Cigar Review.

Brand History

The Avo cigar brand became available in 1988 and was founded by musician and composer Avo Uvezian.  After music, Avo Uvezian’s next great passion is cigars.  His love for cigars resulted in him developing his own unique blend with legendary cigar manufacturer Hendrik Kelner, who is based in the Dominican Republic and who also produces the renowned Davidoff brand.

In 1995, Davidoff bought the Avo brand from Avo Uvezian and now Avo concentrates on the promotional aspect of the brand.  Avo cigars are handmade in the Dominican Republic and are manufactured in the same factory that produces Davidoff cigars.

Avo Cigars are made from the finest ingredients for complete pleasure. These smokes are made from selected tobaccos, kept in store until they are fully mature and contain a large proportion of a specially fermented, matured Piloto Cubano tobacco from the Dominican Republic.  The binder leaf is Olor tobacco from the Villa Gonzalez region, and a Connecticut Shade wrapper leaf provides the perfect finishing touch to the Avo cigars.

This is Davidoff of Geneva’s first regular production box-pressed cigar that utilizes a Nicaraguan leaf.  It is a hearty, old world and traditional box-press that offers a heavy pre-light aroma filled with sweet earth and dark cocoa notes.  Flavors detected from the dry draw and wrapper aroma were spice, cedar and hints of coffee.

 Journey Profile:

1st quarter: There was a slight resistance on the draw.  Immediately, bold spice and pepper delivered a creamy texture with hints of cedar through the nose.  A luring and rich aroma filled the air.  Some underlying sweetness slowly made itself known.  2nd quarter: The draw delivered full flavored characters of roasted bean notes with even more spices and pepper.  Sweet notes continued to linger as well as a coffee like texture with hints of cocoa.  3rd quarter: There were some sweet notes in the aroma with more spicy and earthy characteristics.  A creamy texture enveloped the smoke and mouth, with an equal amount of spice through the nose.  The aroma intensified and maintained a very rich body.  4th quarter: As the body and character progressed from a medium to full, the palate was greeted by spice, creaminess and rich tobacco notes.  The aroma continued to develop and intensify into a flavor that was very alluring, sweet and earthy.

Final Thoughts:

The AVO Nicaragua offers a unique combination of flavors that include spicy, nutty and earthy notes.  It has an outstanding construction that provided for a very smooth draw and produced a long and solid ash.  The overall full body cigar has both a consistent sweetness and a flavorful finish.
