As an avid cigar smoker, Karl Malone has dreamed of a profoundly personal cigar that captured his dynamic, rugged attitude both on and off the court. Nowadays, you can find Karl overseeing his timber logging operation in his hometown of Ruston, Louisiana, where he recently opened up a cigar shop called Legends 32 Cigar and Vape, as well as several other businesses.

In Utah, Karl operates a series of successful car dealerships.  But it is in cigars where Karl finds his passion, and you can see him with a stogie whether he’s operating heavy equipment and timbering the land, or at one of his dealerships in Utah.

Through a close family friend, Karl Malone linked up with the Dominican-based Hernandez family, led by its patriarch Eudaldo Hernandez, a veteran of the cigar industry. Together they approached La Aurora Cigars to develop a cigar blend that represented Karl’s dynamic, rugged attitude and his taste in cigars: bold with wood accents and creamy flavors. After an extensive period of testing several of the La Aurora blends, Karl centered on a blend that perfectly captured not only the flavors loved by Karl but an MVP smoke and aroma. Because of the unique taste of the barrel aged process of the cigar, they named it the “La Aurora Barrel Aged by Karl Malone.”- La Aurora Barrel Aged by Karl Malone launched during the celebration of the 2018 International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers Association (IPCPR) 86th Annual Convention and International Trade Show July 13-17, 2018.

THE CIGAR

 All of the tobacco except for the wrapper are aged in rum barrels for 6 months, but, regularly for all, the tobaccos are given 6 years of aging in bulk and later 6 more months in rum barrels to acquire the aromatic notes of barrel aging looking for the toasted wood tastes that infuse the aging in these barrels. Once the cigars are ready they remain in the aging room for a 3-month period.  The cigars have a rotund start with a predominance of black pepper spice delicate. The presence of wood is evident during the entire smoke because of the rich, brilliant strokes of cinnamon, dried fruits and, including, smoke.

ABOUT KARL MALONE

Karl Anthony Malone is an American retired professional basketball player. Nicknamed “The Mailman,” Malone played the power played the power forward position and spent his first 18 seasons (1985–2003) in the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the Utah Jazz and formed a formidable duo with his teammate John Stockton.

Malone also played one season for the Los Angeles Lakers. Malone was a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, a 14-time NBA All-Star, and an 11-time member of the All-NBA first team. His 36,928 career points scored rank second all-time in NBA history (behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) and holds the records for most free throws attempted and made, in addition to co-holding the record for the second most first-team All-NBA selections in history (tied with Kobe Bryant and behind LeBron James). He is considered one of the best power forwards in NBA history. Malone also competed with the United States national team in the Summer Olympic Games of 1992 and 1996; in both years he won gold medals.
