La Descarga Rum Bar is like finding paradise in Los Angeles!
It was like finding paradise in Los Angeles, a real speakeasy hangout. I approached the door and was greeted by the doorman Christian – this man is busy, because I later found out that he has more than three jobs covering all types of activities inside the door. He was great and was able to get me in, but be sure to make reservations – they are definitely a requirement!
Once I made it to the top of the stairs, I was greeted by three beautiful women…much like Charlie’s Angels. That’s when I realized that this place was going to be a lot of fun; with good cigars, great rum, and burlesque dancers, there is definitely something for everyone. But making it to the top of the stairs is not the end of your journey. You walk through an armoire filled with clothes, and when you come out on the other side, there is a catwalk and a beautiful spiraled staircase that leads to a truly grand rum bar.
The ambiance was breathtaking – a very Prohibition feel, like you were getting away with something illegal. Even though it is small, it has a great cozy feeling and it is definitely one of the most stylish places I have visited in a long time. There was an abundance of vintage lighting and the various types of drinking glasses reflected it beautifully. In the bar, you have a great view of all that this club has to offer and you can rest assured that your cocktails are made with care. Even better, the bar was prime VIP seating to give you an up close and personal experience of La Descarga.
Out on the patio, there was great music and vibrant scenery perfect for the featured activity – Latin dancing. And the view was just as good – from the patio, you are overlooking La Descarga’s wall of over 60 different world famous Rums and Payne Mason cigars.
Overall, I had a blast at La Descarga. This is by far one of Los Angeles’ hippest cigar and rum hangouts, filled with great music, dancing and atmosphere.

Caña Rum Bar “Ultimate Rum Bar In Los Angeles”
Exclusive entry, 140 plus Rums (rum, rum, rum, oh my!), cigars, and a live DJ are just some of the features the Cana Rum Bar in downtown Los Angeles has to offer. Being just a few feet from LA Live, this hidden gem lived up to all its expectations. From the courteous staff to the smooth taste of Zafra rum that just rolls down your throat. I’m talking grown folk status.
Cana Rum Bar is a member’s only bar specializing in….well, Rum. Membership is open to all and for a mere $20 a year you can experience all that the bar has to offer including monthly rum tastings and spirit education. Free liquor…free liquor…free liquor! Oops I got caught up for a second, but that alone is worth the $20 that you would spend frivolously on something unimportant.
Free liquor isn’t the only thing to boast about though. Cana Rum bar comes equipped with a covered outdoor patio as well. You can take a load off and chill with friends (or make new ones), listen to the crackle of the fireplace, and let your senses go into overdrive taking in the aroma of tantalizing cigars. If you want to relax, release, and rewind all the drudgery of the day then this is the place for you. The bar is dimly lit; very spacious so no claustrophobia going on here; and on certain days has a live DJ spinning on the 1’s and 2’s playing a variety of top hits.
Basically, there is something for everyone at this bar. But don’t take my word for it. On Friday’s during La Hora de Oro from 6 – 8pm, membership is on the house just for helping them get the weekend started. Can you say PARTAY!!
Cana Rum Bar is located at 714 West Olympic Blvd., LA 90014 and open 6 days a week.

Seven Grand Bar and Lounge Downtown Los Angeles
The Seven Grand Bar and Lounge resembles an old-time whiskey lounge – excellent design that makes you appreciate what lounges used to look like many years ago. I walked in on a Thursday and, as is typical, it was just starting to get busy for the evening ahead. The lighting cast a warm glow and folks just seemed to easily flow in like good bourbon into a glass. In fact, this lounge is a prime example of what a whiskey bar should be – rich wood with a sophisticated feel that appeals to everyone and a design scheme that allows people to really relax and enjoy themselves.
The bar itself has plenty of whatever may tickle your fancy – from Macallen to RIP Van Winkle. It is a little pricey but worth the atmosphere to enjoy a fine cigar. Also new to the Seven Grand bar is the Jackalope Room. It is a separate area built to enjoy finer whiskeys, scotches, and cigars. You can also choose to buy a bottle and keep it in the Jackalope Room for your next visit. In addition, it features two very knowledgeable gentlemen that will assist you regardless of whether or not you have purchased a bottle. Seating is on a first come-first serve basis, so be sure to get there early to get prime seating. Elsewhere in the lounge are a few pool tables and, for the cigar lover, a comfortable patio area to enjoy yourself. If you are trying to impress someone, bringing them to the Seven Grand Bar and Lounge would be a very smooth way of doing it!
If you are interested in tastings, the Seven Grand Whiskey Society offers monthly tastings and education of rare whiskies, old and new (hosted by Spirit Guide Pedro Shanahan). Private tastings are also available and those interested in hosting a party or event can contact email@example.com.
This is a very hip spot to meet and enjoy a fine cigar with a well drink – highly recommend it!
