Punch Signature Robusto Cigar Review.

Brand History

General Cigar Company is one of the world’s foremost manufacturers and marketers of premium cigars. Their artisans in the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Nicaragua are passionate about handcrafting their iconic products to maximize the cigar smoking experience. General Cigar’s portfolio of acclaimed brands includes Macanudo, Cohiba, Partagas, La Gloria Cubana, CAO, Hoyo de Monterrey, Excalibur and Foundry.

Given their large size, they are able to buy, age and store their own tobacco, operating three factories in each of the top cigar-making countries. As a result, their team of cigar masters can utilize an extremely broad base of tobacco in creating new blends, and they can move quickly to bring innovative new products to consumers. Their joint venture with the Plasencia Group provides additional capabilities in leaf growing, processing, and cigar making. The Plasencia Group’s highly regarded, family-owned operations encompass five cigar factories and more than 20,000 acres of tobacco farms.

Punch Signature is a notable addition to General Cigar Company’s Punch brand. The cigar features a specially cultivated Ecuadoran Corojo wrapper, grown explicitly for this cigar. The wrapper harkens back to Punch’s historical use of both Ecuadoran and Corojo tobaccos but evolves the brand by giving consumers a fuller bodied, more flavorful, and more complex smoke. Punch Signature is the perfect mix of tradition and modern taste, and truly showcases the evolution of this legend.

The Punch Signature had a seamless and silky wrapper with a nice spicy pre-light smell. Slightly oily brown wrapper with some toothiness.

 Journey Profile:

1st quarter: There was slight resistance to start off the draw but it was otherwise excellent. Right away, there was a big burst of spice and deep rich flavors, with earthy spices and cocoa notes hitting the palate right away. There was a spicy pre-light smell that carried over to the flavor once fire was put to the foot.   2nd quarter: Some creaminess developed with big tobacco flavor and aroma. There were also cocoa and some cedar notes that developed, although it maintained a good amount of spice in the nose.   3rd quarter: There was a creamy texture that is detectable in the smoke, full of great earthy tobacco notes. Its dense smoke lingered with full flavors and the peppery spice in the nose continued from the earlier part of the smoke. The aroma had a noticeably sweet undertone and the cigar offered a slow, even burn that held onto a long, light gray, and flaky ash.   4th quarter: It offered an all-around rich and full character with big personality. A smooth draw continued and its flavors and strength never let up.

Final Thoughts:

The Punch Signature Robusto had excellent construction with a great burn and a smooth draw. Overall, it is a complex cigar with a full body that is loaded with rich tobacco flavors. It is effortless to enjoy all the way down to the nub – a testament to the fact that Punch remains at the top of their game.
