“Crafted to pay homage” The PMG Gigantes by BG Meyer Cigar Review.
Brand History:
Rob Weiss is well known in the cinema industry as one of the writers and producers on the hit HBO series, “Entourage!” In 2014, he partnered with Camacho Cigars to release the BG Meyer Standard Issue, Weiss’ inaugural cigar brand. In 2015, they then introduced the BG Meyer Gigantes, a new line extension and the third addition to the BG Meyer by Camacho collaborative portfolio.
Crafted to pay homage to the pioneers of bold character, people who dared to speak their minds when no one else would, Gigantes has a character of its own that can easily go toe to toe with the strongest personalities on the planet. Packing a combined age of over 20 years, the tobaccos utilized in this masterpiece are as refined as they come.
The BG Meyer Gigantes, which from Spanish translates as “Giants,” pays tribute to those trailblazers or towering spirits who lead by example and influence the lives of many. The concept for the cigar comes as a play on the legendary Gigantes format, which is traditionally a 6” x 54” ring size cigar known for robust flavors.
Appearance:
This cigar has a rich, brown wrapper with a sweet cedar and a soft earthiness on the pre-light. It was evenly colored with some oils and a lot of noticeable tooth; the vein construction was excellent.
Journey Profile:
1st quarter: Once lit, there was an effortless draw with a deep aroma and some sweet notes on the palate and in the air. Hints of cedar and a roasted texture provided plenty of full-flavored smoke. 2nd quarter: There was a slow build in body as more full-flavored smoke developed. Some light spice came through the nose and on the finish and left a crisp and creamy texture on the palate. 3rd quarter: A medium-body continuously developed with the flavor profile. It was smooth on the palate with really light sweet tones. Spices continued developing in the nose and on the palate and continued to provide for a great creamy texture. 4th quarter: Overall complexity of this cigar was very good with a full-body and a long lasting flavor with a roasted texture. Its long finish ended with a unique, sweet and spicy flavor.
Final Thoughts:
The PMG Gigantes was well balanced on the palate and delivered a body that was overall medium-full but continued to build slowly throughout the smoke. It has excellent construction and delivered just the right amount of complex character. It provides for a rich smoking experience that offers a big, rich aroma and a great long lasting finish.
