“Silky to the touch” Felipe Gregorio Refusion Cigar Review.
Brand History:
Founded in 1990, Felipe Gregorio Cigars is the true boutique cigar maker. They have remained small to invest in quality – they specialize in limited batch cigars using vintage tobaccos, with each blend being unique in its character.
As a cigar maker for over 25 years, Felipe’s respect for the origins of the tobacco and genetically pure seeds has led him to pay special attention to the raw materials he uses. Like a great wine, the leaves used to make a cigar need to have the identity of its birthplace and the earth it sprung from. The soil brings out the original characteristics of the blend and Felipe takes great pride in bringing that to the forefront of each cigar he makes.
Appearance:
This cigar has a creamy brown wrapper that is silky to the touch. There is a slight sweet aroma along with earthy floral tones on the pre-light. In addition, the wrapper has a rustic and hearty appearance.
Journey Profile:
1st quarter: There was a very smooth draw that delivered big clouds of smoke. Some spice developed through the nose and slightly sweet flavors carried over in the aroma once lit. 2nd quarter: The draw produced big earthy flavors that remained consistent throughout the first half. Later, those flavors began to reduce and left some bitterness on the palate. 3rd quarter: An underlying sweetness remained on the finish and in the aroma. Some toasty texture was detectable along with a light creaminess as a rich, earthy aroma filled the surrounding air. 4th quarter: Some light peppery notes were present through the nose and on the finish. Earthy and nutty notes developed in the aroma. It produced unique spicy flavors on the palate and its slow burn produced a long ash.
Final Thoughts:
The Felipe Gregorio Refusion cigar was a medium body that was well balanced with good flavor right from the start. Its outstanding construction allowed for a nearly flawless burn that held onto a light gray ash. The solid burn and draw made it effortless to enjoy. It is complex and highly intriguing – very well made with interesting flavor characters.
