“Impressive looking” Profeta by Cesar Cigar Review.

Brand History

Cesar Espinal had a dream in his youth.  A third generation tobacco grower, Cesar was fifteen when he started working at his family’s farm in the Dominican Republic.  He worked in the fields learning how to plant, cultivate and harvest tobacco.  The Espinal family sold their yield to several of the most prominent cigar makers.  In his late teens, Cesar started learning the art of making premium cigars from master blenders and rollers that came from the Dominican Republic.

With his family’s help, he opened a small factory in San Diego in 1996 called Cesar Cigars where he began producing hand rolled cigars for the locals and tourist trade.  Cesar wanted to perfect his skills, so in 2000 he decided to move to the Dominican Republic and started honing his craft.

Driven by his passion, he took over the family farm in 2010, built a small factory near Santiago and began manufacturing cigars for several small retailers.  By 2012, he moved his operation to Tamboril to continue expanding Cesar Cigars.  The factory has now grown to over 1,200 acres for growing tobacco, and includes the box factory that produces packaging not only for Cesar Cigars but also for many other well-known Tabacaleras.

Cesar values life’s simple pleasures.  The Profeta is an exceptional cigar that uses a three-year-old wrapper and five year aged fillers to offer a great presentation at an affordable price.

Appearance:

The cigar has an impressive looking and rich milky brown wrapper.  It is very alluring and offers a great pre-light aroma of slight sweet notes of spice.  It is silky smooth to the touch with visible seams.

 Journey Profile:

1st quarter: There is an instant burst of spice right from the start and only a very slight resistance to the draw.  Immediately upon lighting, there was a very unique and full aroma that hit the palate and filled the air.  2nd quarter: This portion was a gradual build to a full body and full flavor.  Spices continued to intensify along with the strength of this cigar.  Some nutty texture was detectable as it produced a nearly white ash.  Big earthy tones with hints of sweetness lingered around.  As the 2nd quarter came to an end, spices began to reduce and a more noticeable tobacco flavor came into play.  3rd quarter: You will find plenty of woody and spicy notes along with an underlying sweetness.  A full body continued developing and there were spices and coffee notes on both the palate and through the nose.  It offered big flavor and aroma that had a lot of rich tobacco, cocoa and earthy tones.  4th quarter: There remained a lot of spicy notes through the nose.  A slow and even burn created a long and flaky gray ash.  There were plenty of tremendous flavors that continued developing as the cigar was smoked down and it delivered full, dense smoke to the palate right down to the last inch.

Final Thoughts:

The Profeta by Cesar Cigars has a big full character with richness and unique characters.  There was a consistently sweet undertone on the palate with some woody notes that developed later on.  It is a medium-full body with full flavors and a very aromatic and alluring aroma.
