Juan Lopez Cigar Returns: A Blend of Tradition and Modern Taste

Juan Lopez

‘Inspired by the Past, Crafted for the Present’.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The legendary Juan Lopez brand is returning to the U.S. Market after more than 10 years. Considered the boutique cigar of choice among aficionados, this highly lauded Cuban heritage brand, now produced in the Dominican Republic, bridges the gap between its traditional Cuban origin and today’s premium cigar preferences.

The story of Juan Lopez begins in 1876, when the brand was founded by Spanish businessman, Juan Lopez Sena. While it never achieved the same level of global recognition as some of its Cuban-heritage counterparts, Juan Lopez has maintained a loyal following among premium cigar smokers. The Juan Lopez brand has long been known for its interesting, impeccable blends and small batch production.

“When creating a new version of a cherished heritage cigar, it is important to retain many of the elements that made it so beloved in the first place,” says Nick Libretti, Senior Brand Manager. “Our goal was to create something for the U.S. that a traditional Cuban cigar smoker will recognize and enjoy, while also having a blend and style that resonates with the modern consumer.”

The new Juan Lopez cigar is blended and crafted at the highly regarded Tabacalera Isla under the watchful eye of seasoned cigar-maker Hostos Fernandez Quesada who worked for his family’s legendary factory for many years before striking out on his own. His recent work, namely for boutique manufacturers like Warped and Matilde, has earned him several 90+ ratings by Halfwheel and Cigar Aficionado, so consumers can trust that this historic brand is in good hands.

“It has been such an honor to work with this team on this important project,” says Hostos.  “Working with a legendary brand like Juan Lopez is such a great fit for us as a factory and we are very excited to showcase this blend to the world.”

Hand-rolled in the heart of the Dominican Republic, the new Juan Lopez cigar is blended using three different Dominican fillers, which gives it a rich and nutty center. Its Habano binder provides just the right amount of spice to keep the cigar interesting, without overpowering the blend, and it is finished with a stunning Ecuadorian Corojo wrapper, which gives it notes of leather and a beautiful tobacco sweetness.

The new Juan Lopez will be available in the same three sizes from the original line and will be sold in boxes of 21.

  • Campanas: 5.50X52                     MSRP: $304.50 Single: $12.50
  • Maximos: 6×48                            MSRP: $299.25 Single: $12.25
  • Seleccion Especial: 6.75×52         MSRP: $309.75 Single: $12.75

Each size will also have a custom-made 4-pack, which will be available later this year.
