Joya De Nicaragua Antano 1970

Antaño, in Spanish, means “yesteryear.”  This cigar was crafted as a tribute to recapture the power and essence of the puro that made this legendary brand the most sought after cigar in the United States in the post-Cuban Embargo 1970′s.  Made exclusively by hand and entirely of Nicaraguan tobaccos, this cigar is a robust, spicy smoke with an excellent body and aroma that is suited for the seasoned of cigar connoisseurs.

A little history…Joya De Nicaragua (translates to the Jewel of Nicaragua) holds an interesting, if not prominent place in modern 20th Century cigar history. Tobacos Puros de Nicaragua S.A. was the first factory established in the fabled Esteli Valley region of Nicaragua. Consistently, this region has produced some of the finest tobaccos and highest quality handmade cigars in recent memory. Founded in 1968, it was the cigar of Presidential Administrations in the years following the Cuban embargo of 1964. In the 1970’s, its quality and flavor were renowned, considered to be the very finest in the world at that time (it even rivaled Havana production)!

Nearly brought to the brink of extinction during the Sandinista Revolution, it was returned to prominence and accolades in 2002. The Antano 1970 blend is a return to those bygone days of the 1970’s. By re-enlisting the master blenders and torcedors of that storied era for this project, Joya De Nicaragua has truly recaptured its former glory, providing for your enjoyment a genuine “Jewel,” that is more than worthy of your time and attention.

This cigar has a really nice looking Nicaraguan Habano Criollo wrapper and the tone is consistent from the toe to cap. This cigar feels very well constructed in the hand, possessing considerable mass. It had a little tight draw with nicely smooth white smoke. There was a pleasant taste of sweetness, creaminess and cedar by the time I reached the band.  It had a really even burn with an easy draw while the wrapper stayed intact and required no relighting.  This stick is a powerful smoke that should be smoked by a Joe that likes to be grabbed and kept on their toes.  A Great Recommendation!!!
